Intro to Brave New World
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is obviously in the fiction genre. From my understanding, this is what a perfect society would, as well as should be like. In this society there are different "batches" of babies being made. These babies are chemically made in test tubes. One egg is split to have many kids. One egg makes dozens of twins. The average number of babies with one egg is 72. The different "batches" are the same within the group. The five groups that are made are: alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon. When the groups are being made they use oxygen deprivation to control what group is being made. Alphas are given the most oxygen, allowing their brains to strive. The epsilons are oxygen deprived during they making, which doe snot allow their brains to work to its fullest ability. With that said, the alphas are at the top of the list, being the smartest and destined to become the thinkers and leaders in the world. Epsilons are at the bottom of the list, they are destined to only perform menial labor or the easiest things possible to help society. Each group is programmed in a certain way. The deltas are exposed to explosions and shocks. They also learn to hate books and flowers. In this society they are programmed to remain loveless and emotionless throughout their lives. Of course, that is not too hard considering that is now they are mentally programmed. At a very young age, they learn and are exposed to sexual interaction with the opposite sex. (when each groups is in tubes they are sterilized, only allowing 30% of women to have kids.) Throughout their lives, they have sexual interaction with any person they wish. This allows them to not become emotionally attached to others. Getting attached to one particular person is looked down upon in this society. No one gets married. no two people have children together, and no one has parents.
